What to Bring to a Personal Branding Photo Shoot | Boston Branding Photographer
The reason for building a personal brand is to allow people to feel like they know you, and you'll do that by giving them a taste of what it's like to work with you.
One of the best ways to invite people in is by showing people what your day-to-day work looks like. Props are a great way of telling that story visually.
Here are a few ideas about what kinds of things you'll want to bring to your branding photo shoot:
Tools of the Trade
What are the tools that you use daily? For me, it’s a camera, my laptop, and sunlight. For you, it’s probably a different combination of things.
A yoga instructor will have a yoga mat and maybe some blocks and bands.
An interior designer might have fabric swatches, paint samples, a tape measure, and design boards.
I’ll take photos of you in action, interacting with these tools. These photos will help people to connect what you do with who you are, which makes a strong—and sticky—impression.
Details, Details, Details
Now I want you to think about the little things that tell the story of who you are and what it’s like to work with you.
These can be things that make you memorable, or things that will serve as visual keys in your client’s journey with you.
One of my clients is a jewelry designer but she just loves Starbucks, so I photographed her working and we had a Starbucks cup sitting on the table while she did her thing.
Realtors, why not bring a set of keys? A detail shot of a set of house keys (bonus points for a cute keychain) will have so many versatile uses. You can use it as a header image, or as an Instagram post to talk about the home buying process, or to tell the story of a special client.
Or do you have a specific fun “thing”? I love dangly earrings, and since I’m always wearing them I’ve been trying to incorporate them into my own personal branding images.
Educational Materials
Every one of us has to educate our clients in some way, shape, or form. Whether your materials are physical copies, like brochures, or digital, in the form of videos, PDFs, or websites, bring them with you.
A happiness coach I worked with brought along some of the materials she uses to educate people about positive psychology.
One of my clients is a pilates instructor, and she brought along diagrams of the human body and musculature.
From these images, you’ll be able to start a conversation that demonstrates your authority. You can talk about how you make things easy for your client, and discuss the ways that you’ll be able to work together.
