What to Wear for Your In-Home Newborn Session | Wayland, Massachusetts Newborn Photographer

Bringing home a new baby is a whirlwind, and suddenly there’s so much more to think about. In the midst of all of that, choosing outfits for your newborn session is the least of your concerns. That’s why I always try to visit with families, like this one in Wayland, Massachusetts, in order to sort out the details before the baby arrives.

As always, outfit planning begins with mom. You’ll want to choose something that’s comfortable, first and foremost. It’s also important to choose something that coordinates with your decor.

I worked with Caeli to understand her style, and we chose this long, pale pink maternity dress from my client closet. What’s a client closet?

It’s like a lending library of outfits! Right now, my client closet is filled with long dresses for mamas, and it will continue to grow as I work with more clients.

From there, everything came together quickly. Her 18-month-old daughter had plenty of light colored rompers to choose from, and her husband had a few light colored shirts with a bit of pink in them.

Caeli also had a pale onesie and a pink striped swaddling blanket for the baby. Having a coordinating swaddling blanket is always a good idea to calm down squirmy newborns.

After seeing the palette, I decided to bring along this baby headband from the Sudbury, Massachusetts company Owen + Sage.

While this seems like a lot to think about, we were able to pull together the outfits for this session in just 20 minutes during their pre-photo shoot planning session. So much easier than the days of emailing outfit photos back and forth!
