How to Score a Coveted Fall Foliage Photo Session | Sudbury Family Photographer
As I write this, fall is officially here in full force! The world outside my windows is orange, red, and gold, and I had the best foliage session with my friend Sarah (of Owen + Sage) and her family over the weekend. So many families want these coveted fall sessions on the weekends, but they’re extremely limited.
So what’s the secret to getting one of these coveted fall dates?
Before I tell you the key to scoring one of these dates, let me tell you: as a Boston family photographer, I get so many inquiries in September and October.
By then, not only is my calendar completely full, but all of my fellow photographers’ spots are filled as well—so I can’t even refer you on! With that being said, the very simple key to getting a prime fall photo session spot is this:
Book WAY in advance!
Between Thanksgiving and the new year, I invite everyone on my newsletter list to book for the following year. That’s when Sarah booked her mid-October session, and that’s how she scored photos with this incredible foliage.
Of course, we can’t predict what the foliage will be doing. This year, it’s been brilliant and it arrived right on time, just before Columbus Day. That being said, some years it’s earlier and some years it’s way later. But as a general rule, mid-October through early November are your best bet.
Since I run JLP as a concierge photography business, I extra time and effort helping my clients to prepare for their sessions. That includes scouting locations that have the best foliage.
Sarah’s family was originally going to go with a spot in Minuteman Park, but I decided to scope out this spot instead and was thrilled to find such bright colors. We changed the plan that morning, and boy, were we rewarded for our flexibility!
